CONFERENCE
Language, literatureae musica tra Veniceoe Friuli athe time of Peter I (1426-1504)

The conference dedicated to Pietro Edo, six hundred years after his birth, aims to explore not only his multifaceted figure, but also the linguistic and literary culture of his time and the broader geographical context, spanning the Veneto and Friuli regions, in which he lived and worked. Special attention will be paid to the languages ​​used by Edo (the Venetian and Tuscan vernacular, and Latin), the literary and musical genres he practiced (the Dante-inspired poem, the lauda, ​​the sacred play; the vernacular translation of classical Latin texts; and dialogue-based treatises), and literary figures associated with him (such as Pietro Bembo, Niccolò Liburnio, and Iacopo da Porcia). This will reconstruct and restore the image of an artist and a cultural experience that significantly shaped Veneto-Friulian society between the 15th and 16th centuries.

in Gemona and Pordenone on the trail of Pietro Edo

Visit the heart of Gemona, discovering the places that are symbolic of its history: from the Gothic Cathedral with its ossuary to the Diocesan Museum, along Via Bini to the Town Hall. Conclude with a climb up to the Castle or, alternatively, a descent to Piazzale del Ferro.

The route runs from Adam and Eve Bridge to Piazzetta San Marco and the Cathedral of San Marco, continuing toward the Town Hall and along Contrada Maggiore. It concludes at the Church of Christ, opposite the Ospedale dei Battuti.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Educational meetings are proposed at Pordenone's secondary schools for the 2025/2026 school year, with the aim of raising awareness of Pietro Edo, highlighting his work in the context of fifteenth-century Friulian culture, and exploring Friuli's role as a cultural and linguistic crossroads in the development of the era's culture.
